Our History
| 1974 | The agency is established as Gloucester Family Day Care, offering family day care (what is now commonly known as “home child care”) to parents seeking child care in a home setting. |
| 1982 | The Community Outreach program is established, offering neighbourhood-based drop-ins for children, parents and caregivers. |
| 1985 | A Toy Lending Library is added to the Community Outreach program. |
| 1989 | The agency changes its name to Gloucester Child Care Services.
Elizabeth Park Child Care Centre, a south-Ottawa day care centre formerly operated by the Canadian military at Uplands, joins the agency. The agency opens a new child care centre in the east end of Ottawa: Heritage Child Care Centre. |
| 1993 | Rideau Valley Child Care Centre joins the agency, after the centre, formerly Long Island Day Care, is converted from for-profit to non-profit operations. |
| 1994 | The agency opens a new centre, Forest Valley School Age Program in Forest Valley Elementary School in Orleans. |
| 2002 | With the introduction of Ontario Early Years Centres, our Community Outreach program became a designated satellite of the Ottawa-Orleans Early Years Centre. |
| 2003 | The agency changes its name to Global Child Care Services and a new logo is created.
A warehouse property is purchased in Ottawa’s east end, to create a permanent home for the Home Child Care equipment loaning program and to provide much needed storage space for an expanding agency. |
| 2005 | The agency’s first website is formally launched in June.
The agency welcomes two Orleans child care centres in April: Fallingbrook School Age Program, housed within Fallingbrook Community Elementary School and Trillium School Age Program, housed within Trillium Elementary School. |
| 2006 | The agency opens a new child care centre, Canyon Walk School Age Program, housed within Steve MacLean Public School in the community of Riverside South. |
| 2011 | As a result of the implementation of Full Day Kindergarten (FDK) at Fallingbrook Community Elementary School in Year 2 of the provincial roll-out of FDK, Fallingbrook School Age Program begins to offer the “Extended Day” program for the Ottawa Carleton District School Board in September. |
| 2012 | Forest Valley School Age Program begins to offer the “Extended Day” program for the Ottawa Carleton District School Board in September when Full Day Kindergarten is implemented at Forest Valley Elementary School. |
| 2013 | Trillium School Age Program begins to offer the “Extended Day” program for the Ottawa Carleton District School Board in September when Full Day Kindergarten is implemented at Trillium Elementary School. |
| 2014 - 2016 | Through a partnership with the Military Family Resource Centre, Global's Community Outreach program offered two drop-ins exclusively for Canadian military families in Kanata and Riverside South. |
| 2014 | In September, Canyon Walk School Age Program transformed into Canyon Walk Child Care Centre, converting from a 50-space kindergarten-school age program to a 40-space child care centre serving preschool-age children. This conversion corresponded with the implementation of Full Day Kindergarten at Steve MacLean Public School and the advent of the Extended Day program delivered by the school board. |
| 2017 | Winterwood Child Care Centre launches on August 14. After 30 years at Uplands Catholic School, Elizabeth Park Child Care Centre underwent a relocation of its programs, staff and 57 children, and transformed into Winterwood Child Care Centre, located at St. Marguerite D’Youville School. |
| 2019 | Funding is secured for Global’s Community Outreach program as an EarlyON Child and Family Centre to continue to deliver early years drop-ins to the Ottawa community, following the Ontario Ministry of Education’s transformation/rebranding of the family resource sector into “EarlyON”. |
| 2022 | Global Child Care Services is approved in September to enroll in the Canada Wide Early Learning and Child Care (CWELCC) program. Global's participation in the national child care program benefits families with graduated deep discounts to the cost of child care fees in children under the age of six, commencing with a 25% reduction in child care fees retroactive to April 2022. |
| 2023 | The New Year commenced with a further reduction in the child care fees paid by families, due to Global's participation in the national child care program (CWELCC). Families now enjoy child care fees for eligible children discounted by almost 53%. |
| 2024 | Global Child Care Services celebrates its 50th Anniversary. |
